Hindsight is always 20/20. Looking back, it's easy to see the best course of action, but in the moment, how do individuals decide what to do when faced with challenges?

There is more to the story:

Studying history, it seems clear that certain events, or the influence of specific people, lead directly to particular moments.  Rarely, however, is real life that cut and dry.  Everything that makes up a person's identity is complicated by different motivations, emotions, and circumstances that are unique to each person, situation, and time period.  There is so much more to the story!

Assignment Details:
  • Choose a book of historical fiction and read it.​

    • Must relate to United States history from the pre-Colonial period through the 1930s.​

​

  • Create a 3 to 5-minute presentation for class

    • Provide background information of the time period

      • What was happening in real life at the time of the story​

    • Discuss the background of the book

      • setting​

      • characters

      • plot

    • Point out where the book and real life overlap.

    • Answer one of the essential questions.

​

During this project you will get to explore what life could have been like and gain an appreciation for the motivations and complex problems all people face, regardless of where and when they live.  In reading a work of historical fiction, you will understand why it mattered to have lived through that particular time period or event.
